Lost in Translation: The Hogwallops

Dysfunctional, bizarre, comic, The Hogwallops is a performance centering on a family of misfits. Inspired by Roahl Dahl’s The Twits and Ettora Scola’s film Bruti, Sporchi e Cattivi ('Ugly, Dirty and Bad'), The Hogwallops offers a reflection on the love/hate nature of familial relationships.

Highly skilled and creative aerial and floor acrobatics are combined with physical comedy to create an absurd, cartoonesque expression of daily life. Swinging aerial washing line antics, animalistic dinner table juggling, beautiful zimmer-frame trapeze, and spectacularly fun Korean cradle drama create a truly exciting, funny and slightly twisted world. With an original score, including music reflecting themes from domestic comedy to lost love, The Hogwallops is a treat for the eyes and ears.

The Hogwallops was commissioned by Showzam! Festival in Blackpool for February 2014, and later toured to Ispwich, Tralee (IE) and Rome.

Set / rigging & technical details

Aerial rigging required for low cloudswing (tensioned truss) and aerial zimmerframe. Rigging requirements: 2 x 1 tonne rated ceiling points at a minimum of 6.5m height to hang the swinging bar/truss from (this can be direct to a grid or ceiling beams); 1 other ceiling point of 500kg (though if necessary this can come off the swinging bar) located at DSR, though the position is flexible and this can come directly off the grid/ceiling beams; 4 x 1 tonne floor or wall point to guy off the swinging bar roughly at the four corners of the stage. It is possible for the company to put rigging points into the floor or wall if needed, but this will take extra time and have some cost attached. Other equipment: free-standing korean cradle (7m long x 4m wide x 4.5m high). Other set: very simple - e.g.: table, boxes, clothes. The company currently ask to be provided with 5 x 9m of dance floor. This will change once they have enough budget to buy black mats.
