The Gramophones: Tarzanna

Tour Ready, Work in Development

We are a playful, female theatre company, who devise witty honest theatre with a twinkle in its eye. We place the audience at the centre of our performances; taking them on a journey we spark the imagination, making eyes bright and chests warm. Colourful characters, playful physicality, and inventive storytelling come together to create accessible theatre that roars with mirth and beauty.

"Tarzanna was wonderful! Just loved how everyone from 9 months to 90 “got it”– beautiful production!” (Audience member Derby Feste)

Tarzanna is an outdoor theatre show with aerial and puppetry perfect for families. After a row with her mum, Anna hides in the garden, intent on spending the night outside in her tree house. Follow her amazing journey as she is transported to the Rain Forest, discovers wonders she’s never seen before. Wild creatures appear and dance before her as Anna swings through the jungle of her dreams. But when her new home is put in danger, can she become Tarzanna and save her new found friends? Tarzanna is a playful aerial theatre show for all the family to enjoy. Watch the performers literally climb, jump and swing through the air.

“Massively enjoyed watching Tarzanna by @The_Gramophones and @BabVagabonds at @derbyfeste today. My nearly 2yo son was spellbound!” (Audience member Derby Feste)

Current state of project

The piece was commissioned by Derby Feste last year. I would like to work with a circus choreographer/movement director for the next phase of development and to get a circus producer on board.
The first R and D has happened and was funded by Derby Feste and the Arts Council. I am applying for another Arts Council grant for the second phase of development.
We have a date for the premier of the second stage of R and D at Curve this October as part of Inside Out Festival. Rehearsals will be in September/October.
